              Brake Cables for Tractors

              Brake cables used for tractors are usually similar in construction to a type of cable called a "Bowden" cable (more commonly associated with cycling). This is a type of flexible cable capable of transmitting energy (in the form of mechanical force) by having a cable sliding inside a hollow cable housing. The housing typically has several layers including a lining to aid the smooth relative motion of the cable verses the housing which is generally fixed in position via clips. Brake cables generally work in tension, that is it transmits a "pulling" force rather than a "pushing" (compression) force. The brake cable connects the brake lever to the brake housing. With modern hydraulically operating brakes, brake cables are generally used for parking brakes. Brakes are of course usually considered to be a safety critical component and will often have fail-safe devices such as springs to ensure the safest position is the default position.

              How do I choose the right brake cable

              The brake cables listed below are listed by manufacturer (the tractor make and model you are replacing the brake cable for) and also by the type of "ends" the cables have. The "ends" are how the cable is attached to control mechanisms on either end of the cable (brake end and control end). Using the pictures of the brake cable ends below, please match the non-OEM Sparex cable (which is manufactured to the best OEM quality possible) against the original cable that is being replaced.
