Thread Repair & Riveting Thread Repair Kits HOW TO USE THE THREAD INSERT SYSTEM 1. Select the size of kit which is the size of the finished thread you require. 2. Drill to clear out the damaged thread (if necessary). 3. Cut new thread using tap provided. Tap thread pitch should match up with the bolt to be fitted. 4. Wind insert in with a light downward pressure until within a 1/4 to 1/2 turn below the surface, using the insertion tool. Make sure the insertion tool fits over the tang, thus driving the tang. 5. Remove insertion tool and then replace, this time allowing it to rest on top of the tang. Tap down sharply to remove tang (or alternatively use the tang removal tool provided in the smaller size kits only). DO NOT try to twist tang off. For large fine threads use long nose pliers (S.11240) and pull tang out.
