              About Fiat Tractors

              Now part of the successful CNH Global group (Case and New Holland), FIAT started its life in 1899 as a company making cars, which then diversified into a tractor manufacturer in 1910. However, FIAT, (Fabbrica Italiana de Automobili Torino), did not successful develop their first tractor model, the 702, until 1919 due to the implications of the First World War. The 702 was large in size due to its unit construction method, which also made it quite expensive when compared to other leading makes of the time. The 700 replaced the 702 in 1927, as demands changed the 700 needed to be a smaller and lighter tractor which was also built in a crawler version (700c) to help combat difficult driving surfaces.

              The company continued to produce tractors in Europe becoming the biggest tractor manufacturer which included branching out to Romania (UTB) and Turkey (Turk Traktor). The company expanded its range by selling tractor models made by the American company Allis-Chalmers under the brand of Fiat-Allis.

              In the early 1990’s, Ford was looking at consolidating its product range so Fiat merged with the existing Ford New Holland tractor company which later added the Case IH brand to the group to form CNH Global.
