              PTO Shafts

A Power Take-Off (PTO) shaft allows an implement to connected to a suitable power source, such as a tractor engine. The shaft is defined by its tube profile, (either lemon, star or triangular), and by its Universal Joint dimensions.

              PTO Identification Guide

Identifying the PTO drive shaft correctly is critical to order the correct parts for the repair or replacement for your vintage or modern tractor with a new equivalent PTO shaft.

Using the following steps will help you to identify the type or series of shaft you have.

              1. Identify the UJ type and size by measuring:

              • A, The cup size = AØ
              • B, The overall length = A (with bearing caps on)

              2. Identify the profile type and size of the tube:

              • A, Lemon
              • B, Star
              • C, Triangle
              • For sizing measure H/W/T

              3. PTO Length

If a new complete PTO shaft is required measure the distance from centre to centre of the UJ’s when the shaft is closed

              PTO Shaft Product Guide

To help you to find your complete PTO shaft quickly we have created a PTO product guide. Below we demonstrate this quick and easy process to selecting and buying your new PTO shaft.

Step 1 – Select PTO Shaft Type

The first step in identifying a suitable replacement PTO assembly or component parts is to determine the “Series” (and “Type” where applicable) of the PTO shaft. The most common styles of PTO shafts are often referred to as “German” or “Italian” style. You can identify the series/type of a PTO shaft by looking at the Shaft Profile of the inner and outer tubes and cross reference that with the dimensions of the universal joint (measurements AØ and A) used.

Step 1 – Select PTO Shaft Type

Step 2 – Select Tractor End Attachment

A list of different attachment types are displayed for selection, (our wizard automatically filters out any attachments that are not suitable for your power take-off shaft type as specified in step 1.)

Step 2 – Select Tractor End Attachment

Step 3 – Select Implement End Attachment

Once again the wizard filters out any unsuitable shafts and only displays implement end attachments that will fit your requirements

Step 3 – Select Implement End Attachment

Step 4 – Select Your Matching PTO Shaft Assemblies

The selection process is complete, a comprehensive list of power take-off shafts are listed ready for your selection

Step 4 – Select Your Matching PTO Shaft Assemblies
